Learning Objectives

  1. Learn research-based strategies using our SPACE framework to improve student well-being, belonging, and engagement.
  2. Network with other educators from across the nation seeking to achieve a stronger climate of care at their schools.
  3. Explore a sample of our workshops and our approach to school change to determine if a more comprehensive partnership with Challenge Success would benefit your school community.

The Well-Balanced Student

Increasing demands on students may lead to unhealthy stress, resulting in burnout, disengagement, or debilitating physical and mental health symptoms. This workshop examines factors that contribute to undue stress like homework, grades, and the culture of competition, and offers tools for creating a healthier school climate.

Faculty & Staff Well-Being

Well-being is a practice, much like teaching, that requires individuals and communities to continually prioritize and recommit. In this workshop, we draw from current research to identify opportunities and strategies for individuals and schools to improve faculty and staff well-being.

Building Blocks for Belonging

All students need to be seen, valued, and respected in order to be healthy and engaged learners. Participants will explore concrete classroom strategies and school-wide policies that foster belonging and support interpersonal connections, with a focus on giving students, particularly those who have
been marginalized, a sense of agency.

Student Fishbowl

“Listen in” to a group of students as they reflect on their successes and challenges from the past year and reimagine how schools might better support student well-being and
engagement with learning. Explore this
approach to collecting student voice to use in your own school communities.

Toolkit for Rethinking Assessment

Looking to add new assessment practices and strategies to your toolkit? In this workshop, you’ll explore a variety of ideas to help you easily and regularly integrate assessment into the learning process.

Making Homework Work

The topic of homework raises critical questions for educators to consider: What is the purpose of homework? How much homework is appropriate? In this workshop, you’ll learn the latest research on homework and will discuss best practices in creating effective homework assignments.

“Awesome conference, I am really fired up! I loved the breakout sessions which gave me so many ideas to bring back to my school.”
